Stereotypical Dubai…

My time away from Dubai gave me an outlook on what people thought about the Emirates, especially Dubai. When people heard that I was settled in Dubai, their eyes would open wide and their mouths would utter the sentence I was tired of hearing – “No Way!”. That reaction would follow up with other statements like – “Isn’t that where the world’s tallest building is? The one Tom Cruise skydived from?”. To sum up some of their thoughts used to describe the “Pearl of the gulf” were fast cars, gold ATM machines, strict laws, abaya (full length garment worn by SOME muslim women), hijab (headscarves worn by….again SOME muslim women), shisha and many other various nouns.

Despite being an Indian citizen, people used to refer to me as a “Dubaiyan” (which is pretty creative I must say). However, the general term used to address UAE nationals are Emiratis. Along with that, what they do not realize is that Dubai has much more to it than just being a materialistic, rich city! Your trip itinerary should not be limited to shopping malls, water parks and desert safaris. This beautiful city has some of the most amazing places that have not been highlighted to the general public outside of UAE. If you want to find out about these hidden treasures, stay tuned for the upcoming posts!
